I'm too not a fan of the Optima products. After being stranded within 13 months after the $200 battery purchase, I went back to "regular" lead batteries and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks to all for saving me $200 on a crap battery with a big name. Time to replace it and it wont be one of those. PG

Two is Better Than One

I bought a Left Hand Battery Bracket from a guy years ago in Canada who had parts from the Diesel F J s and welded it onto the Frame in the appropriate location.

Connected it electrically with an isolator and hooked up the Warn, Ham Radio, and Off Road lights too. The battery has always been one form or another of Marine Battery-they are designed to be discharged completely and not hurt em.

Anyways been very happy with that setup and do nt see a need for any gel cel type battery since I wont be going inverted or exceeding the Bank Angle..

My experience with the Sealed Gel Cel type batteries are no warning and poof they are dead. I do use them in my airplane because of the weight savings over the lead acid, along with being able to locate them at any angle and in a better location.

Dual battery setup

Hiya,

I really like my Wrangler NW setup. No problems with the system. I've had it for about 8 years with optimas. The optimas seem okay but maybe not as good as they use to be. Good luck with the set up.

My FJ40 has two MAF 4+Plus battery trays. The second battery has not been installed, but the tray is there.

The left and right trays are for V8 applications. The inline tray that holds dual battiers is for the original I6.

These are supper rugged trays and install easily. They are a bit pricey, but when you heft them you'll see they're worth every penny. They're made out of quarter-inch steel, and bolt to your inner fender lip and the shock tower. Your battery ain't gunna break loose and flop around in your engine compartment.

And yes, that's a red top Optima. Bought it in 2005. It's been abused and totally drained countless times, until I installed a kill switch. Best battery I've ever owned. BUT... This is an original Optima before they fooked up the quality. There are too many negative reports on the current batteries for me to consider one. I'll run this one until it drops. Don't have a winch yet, but am thinking about a second battery anyway since this optima is over seven years old.

Do you have the tray for dual batteries? I have one that's powder coated that I'm not using. Anyone can PM me if interested.

I have used the Wranger dual batt setup(5 of them) for 15 years, its what I would use again

like others I have gone to the Odyssey/Diehard, my oldest(in my 2000 UZJ) is 8 years old and still going strong.

this is what I did in my 82 FJ40, I made a larger tray to fit in the stock loaction(no drilling holes) and used a pair of 1200's
