Can I drive my rig without an instrument cluster? Will it safely run without the cluster? I'm sending it in for repair.

Not sure. When I was a GM mechanic, you could not. The alternator charge would run through the cluster to make sure it's still there to prevent odometer fraud. Things may have changed since then.

Not sure but most likely yes. That would be bad if you get stranded in the middle of nowhere because the instrument cluster malfunction.

Toyota build a lot of diagnostic that can be accessed without special tools/computers. The diagnostic can be accessed with some jumpers to the OBD pin and some switch triggers. You still need manual but without special tools that hard to find when you are out in the middle of nowhere. This is totally different philosophy than Land Rover that need special software just to fix air suspension ride height sensor.

I have sent a request to Tanin Electronix for an answer. They are instrument cluster repair facility for several clusters/manufacturers.

Good news. I chatted with a tech from Tanin Electronix about driving my GX with no instrument cluster and he said it was perfectly alright - would not damage a thing and the engine would operate just as normal. Now I can get my tach fixed and the cluster inspected.
