1992 Land cruiser,
I have replaced and checked everything in the system per the factory manual. The EGR works and I did clean it. I can find no source for a replacement. I replacedmost of the temp sensors and checked them all. I replace two of the vacuum solenoids. The vacuum lines check out and most have been replaced. I have spent a ridiculous amout of time messing with this.

I still get the check engine light between 50 and 200 miles after reset.

Although he EGR vacuum modulator checks out OK it does look tired. The factory number is 25870-61020. Unobtanium. I see lots of such modulators that have similar but different part numbers. They look the same. Can any of the available parts be substituted?

In California I have no choice other than to retain the factory configuration or scrap the truck. I want to get this fixed before the next smog check.

I have an answer!

Yes it can. Autozone on line had a 25870-66011 modulator. It appears to be a real Toyota-Denso part. The person manning the phone was knowledgeable and helpful. I bought the modulator. IT works fine. The code 71 has not returned.

Autozone??? I had no idea.........

That's helpful. I got the 71 code just the other day. I'm hoping it's that simple.

Although is seems to have helped my 71 came back after 200 miles. I then re cleaned the EGR. Still the code come back but less frequently. I suspect the EGR valve is intermittently sticking. I will get real EGR cleaner and get after it more aggressively.

I would like to know if there way to adapt an available EGR valve. Mine is a California truck. The EGR is not available. I doubt a smog check would throw me under the bus for retrofitting parts that work properly.

I'd try to weld it shut or use a block off plate, put BBs in the lines, wire in a resistor or egr "tester".

They're not going to know and you'll pass the sniffer fine without it functioning. Just leave the components all there but make it operationally deleted.

Since it is working for about 200 miles before the check engine light comes on, it will likely pass OK. IF is is a problem I know a shop that will make it pass by performing a "tune-up". ;)

I'd like to have it work right and not have to reset the computer on a regular basis. Also if I decide to sell it I feel obligated to disclose. That will hurt my asking price.
