Hey chaps, first time posting here, quite refreshing to see that forumming is still alive and kicking in some corners of the internet. Will do a proper introduction post shortly with my uk spec 2002 100 series, 1HD-FTE.
I bought it last month and the farmer I bought it off said it’s a little down on power, I didn’t really have much of a reference point, it felt sluggish but sat at 80 no bother so wasn’t really high up the list (I’ve tackled the bodywork and interior which I’ll discuss elsewhere)
Anyway, that was until I came to towing, fully laden at ~3500kg, the 70 series in my avatar actually… some hills it was really struggling at 50mph.
I brought it back and checked over some things, first thing to note was that the boost controller that sides above the actuator had been disconnected and it was plumbed straight into the vacuum circuit, so I guess someone’s had a bash at fixing it before.
First I checked the fuel system to see if there was any restriction there, ran a hose straight to the pump from a Jerry can, problem still persisted so guessing I’ve ruled out any blocked filters or pickups
Then off came the cat/DPF whatever the first box is, drove it round the block with the exhaust disconnected, problem still persisted!
Then I connected a boost gauge to the plenum, it’s making a solid 12-13psi of boost so regardless of the boost control issue mentioned above it’s still getting the air into the intake at a healthy pressure
Last thing I checked was the map sensor and filter, connected that to the plenum directly, still no power.
And that’s where I am with it, I’ve got techstream and a cable en route which I guess I can start logging some stuff to see if anything’s afoot but aside from that I’m pretty stumped.
Head states if it’s getting boost then it mustn’t be getting fuel, or some other fuel pump ****ery maybe timing?
Anyway, thanks in advance for reading all that and hopefully it’s something stupid
