Anybody got ideas on how to refurbish the door latches. I have a drivers side door where that star like gear slides out of center. The door never stays closed. Yea, I know that 55s have this door problem, but it was never as bad as it is now.

I want to try to get it closer to being nice.

Thoughts?

Didn't want to make a new thread, so I'm bumping this one. My doors don't stay closed either. Every time I close them (no matter how hard), it slides part way open again. Mind you, the door is technically shut, as I can't yank it open or anything, but I'd feel a lot better if they were snug up to the body. Is this a problem with the striker on the door or with the striker on the body?

My bet is that I have to get the front body mounts fixed right so I can adjust the doors properly, then I am fixing the door striker. I have gotten the strikers done and posted some pics, but I can't seem to find them to show again. The door strikers get beveled on the inside edge, right around where the star like thing rotates, so when the door slamms shut it slides out of the hole. The harder you slam them the more they bevel out. That little slippage is how the door bumps open. I'll post some pics when I have something cool to show:wrench::p. I love mig welders:D

Your bad arse pics of your fix are under the FJ55 classifieds. The original post from me was March 27. I can't get the link to save... so I am just telling you where to find it.

Cheers! JackA sent me a used unit that worked great, but your fix is one step closer.

You're talking about the strikers which are on the door correct? I checked mine tonight and they did have some play to them.

bigsal posted "WTB Drivers door latch pre '75 Desperate" in the classified and I posted some pics of the fix. Thle outside housing is stronger and the star now moves like silk. There is no play in the star mechanism at all. Super sweet.
