Door/ Door panel redo

once again, the wife thinks i'm crazy but got tired of looking at the ratted out door panels. they'd been torn up from the po's various attempts at putting in speakers etc. the openings were hacked up and cracked and a lot of the attachment snaps (?) had been pulled out. i had been looking for a while but never found a matching set: they were either the wrong color or not for vent windows. i finely found some blue ones on craigslist and although they didn't have the cut-outs for the vents, i figured i could make they work.

here you can see the differences in the panels and how I modified them.... was super easy. i ended up reusing the old seals since they were still in good shape and saved the full length ones for another project etc.

here's a shot of how the seals go in, in case someone hasn't seen it. just some tabs that get folded over to secure it to the panel

got some new lock guides from toyota as well. heated up a metal punch to melt the tabs down, securing them to the panel

here's the actual door after cleaning it up. while i was in there, i greased all the gears and slides as well as the tracks. works so much better. then, got some heavy guage plastic sheeting to redo the vapor barrier.

here's how it ended up. i had to get some new door pulls as the old ones disintegrated upon removal - crumbled like old bread crust. found these aftermarket ones on ebay for about $10 a pair. the quality and fit were good but the color is a little off.

NICE! I've been wondering about the door pulls myself, I see them deteriorating and know it's only a matter of time. My 4Runner has a grey interior, though. Where did you get them?

Yes, I need some new ones as well...curious where you found them also.

look on ebay, there were several different vendors that had them. i was surprised at the selection - all colors too. some were as low as $8 for the pair. i think i paid $12? let me know if you can't find them and i'll dig up the vendor
