Hi all- I have a '70 cruiser and am doing a ground up resto job. It has selectro hubs, and I have a 283 to put in it. I want to put an automatic in it (severe arthritis in the knees), and was trying to get info on the engine swap (parts, tips, etc), and tranny/transfer case combos that would do well. I will drive it to work and in the desert on weekends, so I need a good compromise between street and dirt. I'm also on a fixed income, so I need gear I can get one piece at a time, or used that I can get fairly inexpensively. I appreciate any help.

No such thing as inexpensive when it comes to landcruisers and especially mods done right. Good luck and check the FAQs section along with the tech links. A lot of good info on swaps of all kinds.

A good tranny for that combo would be the 700r4 but parts and adapters get pricey
