Solid axles are gonna be gone on the Grand Cherokee too.

I don't think IFS vs. Solids debate was Waggoner5's intent here. It just sounds like something he wants to do to me and I say HAVE AT IT! Looks like a fun project and would definitely be a taste of something different here in the states for us. Just because most of us don't care whether our IFS articulates like solid axles do shouldn't stifle his creativity. Folks like Alan P and Christo are finding ways to explore the IFS setup for it's capabilities and looking at Alan's pictures it's capable enough for me. Yeah it's heavily modified to do what it does but I think an 80 would have to have some good mods to do those lines too. I'll just sit back and wait till something hits the aftermarket for IFS and is in the field for a little while.

Waggonner5, have fun and post pics!!!

One of the joys of wheeling an IFS truck, is the front suspension geometry stays intact throughout the whole wheel travel in the front, keeping the full tyre tread width in contact with the ground, and making the vehicle go where you point it.

And I dont think I need to explain what the tyre having full contact to the ground means for drive, braking, and steering ;)

IFS will also droop the 2 front wheels, if the crossmember gets hung up,allowing the wheels to still transfer some drive to the ground, where as a live axle with a pumkin hooked up, holds the wheels off the ground.

IF you got a 100, Id say try it first as IFS, and see if it confirms what you think, or goes against what you think, before you get the gas axe out.

And then you can work on something everyone else doesnt have.....

I remember that truck was for sale at Cruise Moab 2002 when I was there, spoke with the owner, he was looking at a new project then, hence it being for sale.

If you want a bad one off, go the long arm IFS long travel, high clearance baja style, with loads of travel, plenty of grunt, and a nice truck to drive.

rigid front axle cruisers are like corn holes here :flipoff2: everyone has one :P
