Just an addendum to the Sunrise Rollover thread: Does your e-brake work?

Any Cruiser I've had the e-brakes didnt't work. I've never been worried about it 'cuz the few times I did get around to fixing them, they work like crap anyways, especially in reverse. (This is referring to 40 series with the ebrake drum off the tcase).

The e-brake on the '55 worked better after Petra left the brake on for a 1/2 mile or so and burned the oil out of the linings!!
She was asking what the "funny" smell was!!

My emergency brake on my 40 does work but I wouldn't want to count on it in an emergency.;)
All my wheel brakes are in great working order though.

My 40 e-brake work's perfectly if your pointed downhill (forward) I wouldn't trust it all facing uphill. IOW, if I back up with the brake on, I can't tell, forward I can tell. After I sheared the bolts off the mount (started 4 low, 1st gear=bad idea) I tend to not use the e-brake too much.

sorry I voted for my 60.

Never had a 40 before so no idea how crappy they may be...... But if that was the case, could you not retrofit a 60 series brake system in? Using the appropriate brake levers and stuff...

I actually use my hand brake quite a lot on steep climbs when I have to start and stop. Even bring into the play the hand throttle. Set my rpm and use the clutch and brake only... With moments of the hand brake.

What some have done for the 40's is replace the axle housing with a later model one. The kind with the ebrake handle on the floor, those activate the drums on the axle, also, as a bonus they adjust the brakes as well. With earlier model 40's, every couple of months' you'd have to manually adjust the drums.

yep, I did that at Rubithon 96 just as I was about to leave on a night run
I should have taken the hint that night runs are a bad idea down there

Mine works great on the 61 of course... but the 40 e-brake is in parts in a coffee can behind the seats.

too bad lucky larry isn't on here. he's got a good story.

right, GG?

You got that right!
Lived up to handle, of course he wasn't in his LC, but lucky it didn't hit someone (me) or rollover.
Oh how I miss those days up on McNutt...
