Take out an ad in the Southland Times, there'll be plenty of people down there wanting to help you out. Especially if they've been crossed by the same guy.

I got ripped off a few years back when buying a parts truck (diff heads and steering box were mysteriously swapped days before truck was delivered).
I took the guy to the small claims court and won, but to date he's been evading even Baycorp.
Slippery bugger who's been there before and knows how to avoid the system.
I was awarded a total of 84% of the sale price by the courts. I'll happily spend all of that on collection costs to get it back.

Thanks Dougal

I'm just plodding along. I've diaried the 22 March as the next time I contact the police (if they haven't contacted me before then).

Like you - I don't give up.

Well today I got a very pleasant surprise.

I received 3 phone calls from the police down in Invercargill.

The first call was to check that I had still neither received the goods nor been refunded my money.

The second was from a farmhouse in the Invercargill countryside where I spoke to the policeman again and to the father of the young "culprit".

And the third was just to check how I felt about the way things had gone and to advise me that the police would ring me again in a week's time to check whether or not I get my $75 back.

So I'm stoked. We've got a police force to be proud of here :):)

PS. ---I've got "kids" that age myself so I am not "after blood". And the lad's father is obviously unhappy with his son's behaviour and prepared to "make good himself" (and will no doubt be seeking his own $75.00 refund from his son - as I would in the same circumstances).

And hopefully his son will have learn the importance of staying on "the straight and narrow".

PPS. Apparently there are indeed 2 landcruiser wrecks on the property but I doubt "Dad" will allow that "wrecking" enterprise to continue.
(And the "culprit" and his mate are away from home and uncontactable at present.)

Glad I posted you my parts:hillbilly:

Congrats...

Wish we had that here in the US. I "bought" a FJ40 from a guy in New Hamshire and sent him a down payment (of a couple THOUSAND $$). The transport company went to pick it up at which time he was to get the remaining monies. He wouldn't release the vehicle...he wouldn't even meet up with the transport company...

Come to find out the guy had sold the FJ40 to at least 3 individuals including myself. Also learned that the scum didn't even own the FJ40. It was the property of the estate on which he was living . Also learned that this ahole had been systematically selling off the estates property :bang:. Apparently he knew the owner of the estate who was letting this excrement live in the home, free of charge, up until the owner passed away. It took some time for the estate folks to put all of the owners holdings in order (property, vehicles, etc.) during which time this piece of dog sheite started selling off items (tractor, furnishings, vehicles) and pocketing the $$.

Lets just say that despite all of this the police in Tilton NH couldn't seem to care less. I'm sure the estate extracted something out of the guy but myself, at least one other buyer, and the unlucky sole who ended up paying in full for a "stolen" FJ40 only to have it recovered from him lost out big time...I don't even probably know the half of what this guy did but the little I know amounted to in excess of $15K worth of theft :bang:

So yeah, I'd say you should be pretty dang happy you got your $75 back and that the police down there did what they did for you.
