Headers are on average approximately .020" thinner than intake flanges. I'm not sure but I don't think it is enough to go through the hassle of machining the intake. Thoughts?

Ty. Any other opinions?

Use the thick gasket from sor and use a good layer of copper rtv on both sides of the gasket. Unless you’re rebuilding the whole engine and machining the head too, it’s not cost effective to machine the manifolds.

I guess I should say that if the head is not true you’ll never get the machined manifold unit to mount flat like you want. They both need to be dead nuts or just use the thicker gasket.

From the FSM
Manifold warpage limit is 2mm or 0.08 inch. (this seems like a lot of tolerance)

Head warpage limit is 0.15mm or 0.0059 inch

I forget who it was, somebody in the San Juan Islands, who had used the top of his table saw (large flat surface) and had glued down some 320? grit paper and proceeded to wetsand the faces and then finished with 600 grit...

I work at a machine shop and I bet the boss would charge you $30-40 to machine it down.
I personally have a non-machined intake with a header and it does leak. I didn’t put it on but I can see the difference in height on the flanges.

much appreciated!!!

lookin like they getting machined!!! much appreciate everyones input!!

That’s good and this is in the thread history now so nobody is afraid to get the flanges matched. Thank you!

Takes a little extra time...but that's a non factor for me. I'd much rather get it 100% right the first time!!!
