Turns out for years I have been running a pickup coil that wasnt for my 84 dizzy, I am mystified how it even fired let alone ran cause it only had a minescule of the star contacting the pick-up contact.

Got that solved now I noticed somehow the star has got pushed down somehow by just sheer millimeter's. Its obvious from the discoloration alone that its been moved somehow.
I no for certain if I dont move it or something the rotor button will be to far down so it will not fire correctly.

None of my books show how to move or align this star? I can assume its pressed on?

The trigger wheel doesn't contact the pickup, it just comes very close (.010").

And yes, it is pressed on the shaft, but it's a hella press fit. Very unlikely that it ever moved. The rust line typically left behind by the bottom inner edge of the pressed on rotor is normally visible a few mm's above the trigger. Carefully measure the height of the rotor above disy edge, then measure the depth of the cap from dissy edge to carbon terminal. If the rotor is truly too short, then it's more likely that a new OEM cap & rotor are needed.

HTH!

Thank you Jim, yea it has been moved, not only can I see the discoloration but even the correct pick-up still dont completly line up with the pick-up anotherwards from what I can tell, I am looking at the star like 2/3 millimeters to low? No I know the contact dont touch the star however I didnt know the gap and thank you. I have been told don't use a traditonal gapping tool but to use a brass one, is this true?

lol, Jim tonight I will take pictures of the old pick-up installed compared with the new one after things slow down at work. It baffles the mind at the idiotic things people do.

On the rotor.cap measurements I will do that also, I am certain they need changed anyway. My rotor tip looked black/whitish rough texture feeling like alot of moisture got around the dizzy o-ring , which was trashed also.
I bought this dizzy off ebay, when I seen the wires cut I should have inspected it better or just sent it back......lesson leaned

My local autozone crap seller ordered a dizzy for me this afternoon (to allow me to compare) cause I can see that the pick-up isnt aligned ( I know not touced) with the star, correctly. Its a very small amount now but I wanna for sheer s***s and giggles fix it. Hell Jim it ran ( like s***) before I found the correct pickup, I know it will be an improvement, lol.
