What size ammo can?

Nice job.
(TBH, it's pretty funny to see that you used gas-resistant tape for the connections!)
So, what's gonna be on top? Some sort of sand tray?

50 CAL I THINK......
Nice job.

Not sure yet....may be just some lava rocks and call it a day....
Im using an air mixer (90k BTU's), but still get a lot of soot when it is on....
I also dont want to drill any holes on the sides (maybe that's the cause of all that soot), so actual burner will have to come up midway in the box, also will try a 40K BTUs air mixer instead, and drill 1/16" holes instead of 7/64".
Hopefully that will take care of the soot........we shall see.....

I used a .30 cal. can and used a round burner from a turkey frier for the flame. I did have to drill a few holes in the lower sides for proper
air flow, but it works great.

Here is mine. I did the similar build as above.I used the cheap HF ammo can, put expanded metal over the top and used some ceramic fire rock to break up the flames. It works great!

It got some paint and new orifices (1/8") every half inch on the pipe..

Also changed to a 40k BTUs air mixer and the soot is much much less now...but some still present at low fire.
Mid fire and the soot is non existent.
This thing puts out some serious heat....
I see that most of these cans bought or DIY get roasted (warped) on the sides due to the heat (yah can see the heat mark on the first pic).
Going to line the side walls with some ceramic insulation (Aluminosilicate).....
We'll see how that plays out....

Another thing that most fire pits (firewood or propane) are susceptible to is wind....
Specially in DV on a windy day...
I came across a fire reflector or Windscreen.....

At 27lbs and almost $500 shipped to me...... o_O
I think I can build an aluminum cheaper & lighter version....

@MANUCHAO , have you got any friends in commercial or institutional construction? i use the kick plates off doors, usually about 36"x18". n the price is right, free.95 when we do tear outs for refitting. that is a nice unit you've built.

i'm in the club with a DIY version as well, works great for those fire ban trips.

also, i built a windbreak out of old license plates for a backpack sized stove, but that wont work here.
