All,

I've spent a whole bunch of time going through the threads on speakers, reading these threads, and then again re-reading them. I've looked at the threads that discuss stock fitment to find there's a disagreement about what is a stock fitment or that speaker is no longer being made...or both.

I'm a couple of weeks out from a 16 hour car ride to Moab and think it's time to replace my speakers. With other "to-dos" before the tripe, I can't devote a bunch more reading time and "trial and error" on this subject. Here are my wishes:

1. Stock fitment keeping the stock grilles
2. Stock headunit still stay
3. Plug and play if at all possible

I have a gift card to Crutchfield so that is preferred.

Can my fellow mudders help me out?

Thanks,
Jack

It depends on the year your truck was made I believe. On my 91 I was able to fit a set of kicker css67 components in the front door just fine with the tweeters in the front dash oem locations. The back door speakers on mine were tiny but I was able to reuse the oem plastic speaker bracket to fit some db drive 4 inch speakers (s340). I am powering the components in the front with a small amp and the rear door speakers are powered by my alpine head unit. These with a 12" sub and mono amp in the back sounds great.

Good catch on year of truck. Mines the '97 Lexus variant. I doubt the door cards are any different than the 95-97 Toys, but worth a mention.

Time for some searching on these speakers...

Go onto crutchfield website and type in year and model and they will tell you if it fit or not in stock location

I did this with my 97 f350 and it was spot on..

But unfortunately Crutchfield doesn't have options for every car, with 80-Series Land Cruisers being one that doesn't return any useful results. However, if you still buy the speakers from Crutchfield and just tell them where you plan to use them, they will include the adapters to the factory wiring for free.

If you want to keep the stock grills, you're looking at 5.25" up front and 4" in the rear. Rears shouldn't be that bad. Will need to trim the ears off the speakers and glue them into the factory "baskets". Up front, you'll likely need some sort of spacer depending on the depth of the speaker you choose.

Texasknow how did a a series of good YouTube videos that show what you'll need to do.

I checked a couple different websites for fitment on my 91 and they were all wrong. Even the local car audio shops computer got mine wrong lol. I had to pull mine to see.

I just checked for my lx-450 and they had a couple to chose from but sparse.... for the 80 series just nothing...thought there would be more options...

Did you try Lexus dealership?

I think the idea of aftermarket speakers is to get away from the stock junk. Or do the dealerships offer different options then came factory?

These just arrived...

What are those and where did you get them?
Morel nano speakers, they're not cheap but I've never seen speakers so thin. They have good reviews from what I've seen.

Those look awesome. Make sure to post pics when you get them installed!

Nope, not looking for speakers, I have pioneers in my LX...was just looking for the one who started thread

I also went the Pioneer route with my '92 a few years ago. I couldn't remember the exact model or if i needed different speakers for the front and back. I had to open up the stock holes (minor cutting) in my door to clear the rear of the speaker. I think it came with some universal bracket that mounted okay. The front 2 were tight but they cleared the window mechanisms and runners barely. Disconnected the factory amp so all 4 speakers are driven from my Blaupunkt head. Sounds great.
