Just sand blast it.... or media blast whatever you want to call it..

I've sand blasted Blue Glass before to get a haze on it.. Looked pretty cool

If your worried about heat build up, hold the nozzle farther away from the pyrex, It might take longer but it'll work...


For the ghetto crowd:

wrap some aluminum foil around the lantern and poke holes in it...
 
BMAN, I let it sit about 15 minutes. It was dry when I washed it away. I also coated a "Candle Lantern" globe with the same results. I might just try the media blasting method. I want a clean simple look so plastic buckets and foil with holes won't do although I appreciate the suggestions. The foil with holes might work until I get it frosted and diffused. Funny thing is I was looking long and hard at a five gal plastic bucket in the shed the other day thinking to myself... that might just do.
