Differences in ATRAC systems

Looking to leave the ranks of the 80's and join the 100's. I know ATRAC and VSC started in 2000 and it has evolved. What are the years that these changes occured? I've looked through Slee's model change rundown, but didn't see it. My budget will allow for a 2000 or 2001 (at a good price). I wish I could afford a 2003, but they're out of reach. Besides those stated on Slee's FAQ, does anyone know if there is a reason to go with a 2001 over a 2000?

There have been a few reports of 2000 trans. failing--they were posted on mud within the last two years. The 01 has the good mirror inside and all windows are one touch. In 2000 the pinion was upgraded to a 4 pinion design. There appear to be some good deals to be had right now.
