hello everyone! does anyone have any input on any differences in frames between the fj60 and fj62, more specifically in the front engine bay portion of things? we are developing a motor mount kit for the gen 5 LT platform and wanted to build the best kit we can and to make it as affordable as possible. I didn't see any differences personally, but maybe some experts can chime in!

All the help is greatly appreciated.

Are you talking in terms of frame geometry, or the factory frame "attachments"? As far as I am aware, the actual frame geometry is the same. However the FJ60 and 62 have different factory engine mounts. The FJ62 transmission crossmember is also moved quite a bit further back to accommodate the auto
More just mounts and bolt holes in the engine bay specifically. I compared a couple trucks I have at the shop and didn’t notice anything different. Should be the same. But haven’t gotten far enough into it to see if the mounts bolt into the fj60 frame. I don’t see why not, just curious if anyone had any further inside. I did notice the motor mount perches were different, but those will be cut anyway.

Sounds like you're needing to do more r&d for your kit your developing

That is correct. We want to provide the community with the best adapter system. I want to account for any and every little nuances so we can create a solution for everyone’s truck.

I'd recommend get both 60 and 62 chassis or whole vehicle in your possession to figure out what your doing.

That’s a great idea. We have a bunch of both. Running trucks, parts trucks, and 1 bare frame. I’m 99% confident they’re identical. Just wasn’t sure if there was any minor differences that I didn’t notice. More like a second opinion.

@Lead Head gave a great opinion
There are differences in transmission xmember mounting on 3 different years. I would think someone making or buying a engine mount kit would want to know if it would work on 3 variations and if not witch one or ones and have solution.

that is correct. we have accounted for that.

If you have a 60 and a 62, crawl under there with a set of calipers and verify! If you're making a product for sale, you shouldn't be going on vibes and "looks the same".

We 3d scanned both. And everything lines up the same. And on top of that, both frames accepted the motor mount plates. We are far from “winging it”. My biggest concern was if there was a specific model year let’s say Sept 84 where they had a mid year refresh and a couple had an extra bolt hole, or a bracket that might be in the way. So far we have scanned about 8 trucks and all results the same. But I don’t have an 80, 82, or 90 model year. I appreciate the advice! And I appreciate the concern for a “mediocre” company making “mediocre” parts. We are trying our best to stay away from mediocrity. Part of that includes putting our pride aside and asking the community if anyone knows anything that we already do not.

Well, it helps to be a bit more specific about what you have, what you're trying to do, and what exactly you're looking for. For example. you said you were just looking for the differences between a 60 and 62 frame in the front. Now you're saying you're looking for the year-to-year differences in the bolt holes/bracket locations ...which there are some, but it's not clear if they matter for your application since you're being so vague about how your adapter is going to work.

For example, in ~85, the steering box mounting pattern on the FJ60 frame was changed, and remained the same for the rest of the 60, 62 and even 80 series production run. But that isn't a 60/62 difference, as the changed occurred midway through the FJ60's lifecycle ...and does that change even matter for you? It probably doesn't, but we don't know for sure.

Hey now, no one used the word "mediocre", nor implied it. It's understandable that you don't want to give too much information away about a product you are developing, otherwise someone could copy it before you even release yours. But if you have to be tight-lipped and vague (and perhaps rightfully so), there's only so much we can help you.

Actually shouldn't need anyone's help with the tech they are using not exactly sure why this thread was even started just my opinion tho

to clarify some things, we don't care to hide anything. we post updates on social media about the products we are building and explain the revisions. Sure there's the risk of someone coming out with a product before us, but plenty of stuff to make and at least we have proof of doing it first. If someone copies the product after it's developed, well, that's life as well. plenty of products to create to improve the platform!

year to year difference, model difference, similar thing to me. I guess I could have reworded it differently to be more exact but it was more as an open invitation for communication and sharing differences that people notice.

I did learn (the hard way unfortunately lol) about the steering box pattern changing mid fj60 by accidentally ordering the wrong one years ago. Thankfully that wouldn't play any effect into our v8 motor mount brackets.

I know no one said mediocre. WE just don't want to be mediocre. Our goal is to come out with a quality product, that means high quality instructions, ease of use, high quality material, high quality manufacturing. Tying into that, our goal with this post was to "potentially" save us from a call that went along the lines of "hey I have an 82 fj60, and my brake hardline bracelet is in the way of the motor mount, what do I do". if for whatever reason they changed the hardline position just in that year for whatever reason. THAT is the the purpose of this post. To see if there anything that people can chime in on, that we didn't already look at, or take into consideration because we want customers to have a good experience using our products. I guess to summarize, we are afraid of being mediocre because there's plenty of products (maybe not Land Cruiser specific) that are already mediocre, and we don't want to fall into that group.

I hope I explained a bit better about this post. We have a great relationship with BTB and Man-a-Fre, matter of fact we are developing parking brake kit for them as we speak. we plan to go see them and see if they have any insight as well. you can never have too much information!

it was started to get a second opinion. It never hurts to have too much knowledge, and definitely doesn't hurt to build a great product. I really appreciate your previous inputs about the crossmembers and other information.
