Difference between early and late pinion nuts?

I have a 1986 BJ74 but my diff centers are older, I think they are 40 series diffs. They both have solid pinon spacers and i've changed the drive flanges to suit the later larger style on my BJ74. Trouble is I am trying to source some pinon nuts, toyota list a different part number from 11/84 onwards.

Does anyone know the difference and if they are interchangable? I have to order them in and dont want to order the wrong stuff.

Yes, there are several different pinion nuts. They became larger later on... just as your info says.
