Diff breather valve- remove?

I am, like many others, rising the diff and gearbox breather hoses to a higher point. But I notice that the factory valves at the end of the hose is closing on outside over-pressure. I assume this is to prevent water to enter the system if the valves should be submerged.
But is this sensible? This means that the diffs will not suck air in, just blow out. In a situation where the diffs are good and warm and you drive into cold water this will cause an underpressure in the diffs and water might be sucked in trough the seals. Is this a possible scenario?
And when rising the valves to 110 cm above ground the valves should not be necessary.

I just removed them all together and extended the tubes to a much higher place and left the end of the tube open, nothing is going to happen

Yep, after extrnding them some even put one of those cheap clear plastic fuel filters on the end of the hose to keep debris out.
