Assuming that it fits, is it possible to use a dif/3rd member from a semi float axle in a full float axle?

Yep, all the rears are 9.5's and the fronts were as well up until 1990. That applies to US spec trucks anyway, some of the 70 series got 9.5's up front later.

They started off with 9.5 and went to the smaller front diff with the 80 series.
