What do you mean venting?

there's some sort of whizjammer in the tank you can remove to allow you to get more fuel in the tank.

search "ventectomy" I think that finds it.

My s***box is a 96 passat tdi. I get pretty close to 60mpg, I usually fill up around 1100-1150.
I haven't quite made it to 1200 on a tank, ( mainly because I don't want to find out exactly how accurate my gauge is)

maybe it's a bigger tank than a jetta has. dunno.

That's mostly highway, but I'd be surprised if it went much below 50 with town driving.

So far no issues. which is good, because it's an utterly hateful vehicle to work on.

Allen head bolts to hold on calipers???? seriously? what fxxxing genius came up with that idea???

I hear they started with a "square" shaped bolt but added two more sides. The square bolts were stubborn and notoriously hard to work with. :D

Thanks for the info guys. After nearly 20 years of owning and wrenching on Japanese, the thought of working on a German car scares me. Hence why we still have thirsty Maxi.

Another diesel question

With my 40 with points and condensor if you leave the key in the on position too long you can burn the points out.
With my diesel 42 i have to turn the key to on position to do my testing for wipers and heater motor etc. and the glow plugs light up ,i can hear relays clicking etc.
My question is am i doing any harm leaving key on and if i am doing some testing should i just leave key on and not shut it on and off as i do my testing because every time i turn it back on i go through all the glow plug stuff again.

Is yours manual glow? (rocker switch on dash, turn key backwards and hold for glow)

if so, it's just the edic cycling, so no big deal.

it should timeout... since you don't have a coil I don't think that leaving the key in the "on" position should do anything.

If you cycle the glow plugs several times it shouldn't be too big of a deal unless you're doing it constantly...

You can confirm by checking current at the battery with key in on/off positions. You should see the current increase then go to almost zero with key in on position. This is because edic will move and glow will go then turn off. (You'll need a pretty big current meter or a clamp meter to verify this as the glow plugs will pull alot of current)

I am not sure how long the lower glow voltage stays on for your vehicle though...
