I have been wheeling my FJ pretty hard for the last 2 years and have quite a few dents/scratches from rocks, trees, hillsides, etc. A few weeks ago I decided to add some added protection and am very excited with the outcome of the new look. Maddogoffroad.com is now producing these black powder coated diamond plate panels specifically for the FJ cruiser for anyone interested. Here are a few pics of the armor.

Nice!! I wish I would have bought the Black diamond plate corners for my FJ40 instead of the polished. Did you rivet them on?

That looks pretty good ....... but what will be when mud and water will stay over a long time between your door and the plate?

Rust

X10, there is no way to get a good enough seal between the two pieces of metal to exclude all water. You are making more problems for yourself down the road.

Well, both doors have been dented and scratched so I am not worried about any problems down the road. Thanks though.
The diamond plate is sold with a very heavy duty 3M adhesive that INMO is strong enough to hold the panels on by themselves.
We also used self tapping screws and black silicone to get a good seal at spots where water and mud would get in there. I am pretty satisfied that it will benefit me a lot more than cause any kind of problems, I plan on it being permanent. Not trying to sell anything here, just sharing.

Don't think anyone is thinking your pushing them, just sharing concerns. They have probably come across diamond plated FJ40 tubs that have suffered the fate of lack of water sealing creates behind them. I've seen it and it can create a cancer (aka...rust) that can be hard to kill...

Got ya, I see what you are saying. Makes sense.

I install some roofing rubber with adhesive on the backside of the diamond plate, it's very thin yet it doesn't allow the alunminum to metal contact.

Definitely looks pretty cool!
The roofing rubber is an interesting idea...but then it's permanent - then again, prob don't want to/can't pull those off!

I'd be interesting to see them on the plastic rear corners & across the back door...

Funny that you mention that. The peice that fits across the back door will be next and then eventually the rear corner plastic peices as well. Mad Dog will be selling those peices in the future too.
