14 LC all stock with 49k.Hello all, just trying to figure out a random tweeting sound after a lot of town driving. Its a super annoying screeching, sounds like driveshaft or belts.Tried a video of the sound but can’t because of an allowed extension? Any help would be much appreciated,it’s my wife’s dd.

That looks like a video from your iPhone.
Upload it to YouTube and upload a link to it...or email it to a friend who can help you do that...and post a link.

Squealing is probably a belt or related wheel, tensioner, etc...

Like Markuson said above probably a pulley on the accessory belt. Try hitting them with silicon spray or WD40, avoid getting the spray or drips on the belt itself. Sometimes a little bit of corrosion gets in the bearing and it gets noisy. Particularly if a vehicle is parked for a long time (weeks) in a moist area. The heat of regular driving drys out any moisture.

Video was only 6 sec long? Not sure why I couldn’t attach?

Thx for the reply and good ideas. Its my wife’s daily driver so a lot of around town and not much freeway. But we will take a road trip soon hopefully Tahoe this summer! Would be great to get this little problem resolved. Its a little embarrassing with such a nice vehicle.

Thought I would post up a few pics,it’s been a while since I’ve been active here on mud. Were having a heatwave so a 100 rt now in the shade.Just took a few quick pics. Not going to poke around under the hood till it cools down.Thx again for the reply’s I’ll post back up with results soon.

Hello all just a little follow up on noise.Got the oil change a few days ago and asked shop if they could figure out belt noise. My wife thinks it’s just now when she puts the ac on,but I thought it was during a longer drive it would develop.Shop Tried this and road tested. They came up with wanting to replace belt.-I thought that would be throwing parts and labor at problem as they really didn’t know.So I’m leaving it for now.Said they had a good Toyota tech on it(was not at Dealer,it was at Skips our local tire shop).Oh well we’re up in Tahoe this weekend and 200 has been fantastic! Been quiet for now.

@jsuthey, a squirt bottle with water and a helper can answer the belt/tensioner question. Just spray some water on the belt with A/c on and have th3 helper rev the engine a bit. If it gets quiet followed by a moment of louder than normal screeching then you’re barking up the right tree.

Was the A/C recently serviced? If the system is over serviced the compressor can be excessively hard to turn possibly causing the issue you’re describing. Your vehicle is 7 yrs old but that’s pretty low mileage... It’s hard imagine the tensioner/belt is worn out.

CJ3Flyer,thx for the reply.Just got back from Tahoe today and I’ll try and test your idea soon.200 just cruised so nice on the way home cranked AC most of the way and was super quiet. No problem with the noise at all this weekend. I guess it’s super intermittent just didn’t want to pay shop fees and parts(quoted 400$+) and not done at big T! They prob charge just as much! Rather go with Toyota Oem.Lots of cruisers up there this weekend. I was on the northshore but the FJ45 run(all cruisers welcome) was at Deer Valley off hwy 88 closer to the South shore.Beautiful area and super scenic I have done this trail in my old 93 80!!

Forgot to say AC was not ever serviced as long as we have owed it.And it’s a 14 and less than 50k miles so what 5 yrs old not 7? We put 600 miles over the weekend and have to say no problems with noise? Seems to be more town driving where it happens.Well see how it goes.Next up Just got the recall notice and made appt for seat belt recall!
