I got the DiagKing Techstream cable and software for Christmas (from Amazon). I'm a little concerned about virus and malware being uploaded to the Landcruiser's onboard OS. Does anyone here have any experience or thoughts?
I have never heard of a cable uploading/changing anything that wasn't specifically allowed by Techstream (like OBDII codes, vehicle customization, etc.). The software can be sourced from a number of places. Unless you pay Toyota for the use you will have to source and use a software hack. Also you will have to load either a 32-bit or 64-bit driver to enable the cable to interface with your PC. The cable driver and any software hack would be the most likely source of some sort of malware. I'm not aware of any being corrupted, but it doesn't mean there isn't any versions that contain virus/malware. An internet search should yield many sources and I expect the cable will come with some workable version (the Amazon page shows a CD/DVD).
A legal version of the software will be tied to a machine unique ID code that Techstream generates. I downloaded the version I'm running from Toyota Europe.
