I bought an 18 volt Dewalt set from Costco for $499.

It includes:

Hammer Drill
220 Ft-lb Impact Wrench
Angle Grinder
Circular Saw
Sawzall
Flashlight
2 batteries
Tote bag
Charger

I made fun of the flashlight, but I've used it the most...

It's a great kit at a fair price.

You can't buy it online, you have to go into the local big box store...

Sounds like a good setup...Have you seen the new Craftsman Lithium Ion battery tools...The salesman told me they had a patent on these new battery tools through christmas?

there was a good discussion of power hand tools and ratings in the last or next to last consumer reports IIRC...

Yeah it was last month. Very interesting info.

The price value on the 6 piece set is sweet.

Must be one of those holiday season only patents.. :D

some of these replacement battery packs are something like $100 a pop retail....

how long would an angle grinder or a circular saw operate under load at 18V...?

dewalts batteries allways pissed me off. didn't like their circular saw either, but the rest of the stuff was pretty good. i use my cordless tools daily for my job though so i'm pretty critical of them. that price is indeed pretty good considering how much "stuff" you're getting.

i went ridgid for the first time this last christmas on a bit of a whim trying to escape dewalt, was doing it somewhat blindly as nobody else was running them and i've been absolutely overjoyed with the set. home depot has refurbished 4pc 18v sets of them for an absolute steal. worth checking out...

i've used those, they're a lot heavier then they look. i'd hold off on them for a bit. kinda like plasmas, they're all coming down in price as they become main stream. honestly i don't feel they quite live up to all the hype. they're nice but, 18volts have served the construction industry just fine as well.. i'll wait till lithium ion replaces 18volts then i'll jump on them. for now i'll take advantage of the dropping prices of "old" technology.

this is coming from a construction worker that uses his cordless tools prolly a good 4-6 hours a day. if 18volts good for me, i'm sure it's more then adequate for the hobbyist.
