Has anyone suggested that anyone looking for an 80 should simply purchase the newest one, with the lowest miles, in the best condition available in their local market? That's what I'd suggest...

Bingo. :D

And that "cladding" you speak of with such distain is what I liked to think of as body armor

Yes, for wheeling in CA we hear that plastic moulding is great armor. :flipoff2:

To answer Robbies question; It's going to be a daily driving, family hauling, trail riding, type rig. The trails I ride are pretty mild I think .

That "worthless subwoofer" allows the center console to be high enough to be used as an armrest. :D

I like the subwoofer...aside from preventing me from carrying "much too large for any normal human" cups of diet pepsi, it provides a nice vibration when I place my bag of fast food next to it...

BTW...I think you have pink panty envy :flipoff2:

Actually I think I did suggest that.

Sounds like any 80 will suit you just fine. Doesn't matter which tranny or if you have OBDI or OBDII or any of that stuff. If its going to be used for town driving and running the kids to school on the weekdays and then skiing, camping, and fishing on the weekends then you'll be happy with any 80 series cruiser you get as long as the engine and tranny are in good shape and the rest of it looks good to you.

I'd vote for the 96 or the 97 and avoid the 40th and CE's in 97. Just my view and what do I know.

Junk,

Interesting comment. I am in the market for an 80 and decided the 40th just might be my truck. Could you please explain why you think the 40th and CE's in 97' should be avoided? What is a CE?

Thanks
SS

So, go for a locked 93 - the premier fZJ. The 97's on the other hand, simply blow chunks.
