I wanted to let GC know about an offer I was making to MUD members.

Southeast Overland now carries DeLorme products. I'm placing an order Friday morning, March 11th, so anyone who gets an order in before 9 pm Thurs night gets free shipping, a couple of free Southeast Overland stickers, and any orders over $100 get a free Southeast Overland t-shirt too!

I don't have the products up on my website yet but I can provide most of what you see online at www.delorme.com.

School me on delorme GPS units. I have an older GPS device I hardly know how to use.

The DeLorme PN60 is a unit that I've been eying for over 1.5 years. My other business is professional cartography and for that gig I have a very high-end GPS unit which I can use for wheeling but it is too nice and isn't preloaded with maps. It's highly accurate but not always easy to use. I looked at all the other consumer grade GPS units and settled on the DeLorme and said "heck, I should carry these."

The PN60 comes either with a SPOT GPS (emergency GPS locator) or without. (don't miss those links) New GPS chip technology allows for true 3-5m accuracy. A few years ago this was "best case" and now is most often the case unless you have horrible interference with tree canopy or very tall buildings.

The PN60 comes with DeLorme's topo maps and North America Topo USA for desktop use and mapping. For extra bling you can add aerials and USGS topo maps with a Map Pack subscription. It also does elevation profiles and is waterproof (I wouldn't go scuba diving with it to be safe though...).

And even though most everyone won't use it for this I think it says something good about the technology b/c the PN60 can directly interface with my professional cartography software. You get awesome technology in a consumer easy package.

Retail on the unit without the SPOT locator is $399 and I'm offering free shipping, a free Southeast Overland t-shirt (M-XXXL) and free Southeast Overland stickers on orders placed before 9 pm tonight.

Old GPS units aren't worthless. Problem with older units is software compatibility, ability to update base maps on the unit, and the biggie is GPS signal reception. The new GPS chipsets lock in quicker, lock in stronger and lose connection less, and also are much much more accurate. The interfaces are also easier to use.

Sorry this sounds so much like a sales pitch :hillbilly: ...
