Deep water crossings

Hmmm... What model Cruiser and engine? I assume the '80 in your avatar?

We never use tarps. A crew of 5-15 on most runs. More crossings than I would want to count on most runs. Running like this for years now. A few non-clutch fans have taken out radiators. But never a clutch fan and never even a non-clutch fan unless the engine speed and vehicle speed has been too high.

But none of us are running diesels either, so the clearances and fan clutches may be different.

Yes it was the 80 in my avatar (and sig line). Maybe I stuffed up and hit the water too hard/fast, it was a while ago and I don't really remember the day in question.

The way I look at it now is that the first deep crossing we come to is a good chance to stop, boil the billy, let wheel bearings and diff housings cool a bit, and while we are at it quickly fit a blind.

I look at a blind in a similar way to a snorkel, cheap insurance I hope I won't need, but nice to know I have:)

Seems like Drexx had a thread where he sunk his 80?

yeah that speed is something to watch out for, i was in mine waist deep in water starting it trying to get out and i had to back out of a whole and drive around it slowly to get across, i had 33"s 4 inch lift and waist deep, somewhat fast running water. But fun

Good advice above. I used something not mentioned. I had my LC (winched) and a Montero, and a stream. First we walked and poked the stream with a stick. I unclutched my winch and hooked the cable to his rear bumper. He drove across. At a wave of his arm, I could pull him back with the winch. Once he was across, he tied off to a tree and left the cable connected. I crossed while winding the cable in. In case of trouble, the winch would take over. We had no trouble, but felt better with the winch as back-up.
With a third truck, I would have towed a rope across. The third guy would use the rope to pull the winch cable back to hook on. Then I would reel in the winch as he drove for a safety.
