it was a great day. George and Garrr joined us. we never did make it to the lake as the spring snow got a bit hard to navigate. might try again next weekend. the new rig did much better than i expected. here are some pics.

yes its my new pick up truck for fly fishing.
incidentally, you can also put a fully loaded 80 series with the trailer in the back. (16 foot deck with 5400 kg cargo capacity)
its a mercedes 1017A. part time 4x4, 5 speed with high/low gear and rear locker with sunroof.

Looks interesting for a construction company that is in need of another vehicle 
. Put a rolling tool box on the deck so it can be dropped off on site, nice large flat deck for hauling materials and of course very practical if I ever need to build someone a house up say Whipsaw or some place.

a mid mounted crane would sure make it even more useful.
could also use it for support vehicle for all the other thirsty little rigs. funny that the fuel economy is pretty much the same as my lexus.
i think she makes also a good wheeler. like any other rig, some new skin changes everything. borrowed these wheels the other night for mockup.

That is one sweet truck. I think Mike (Rugy) still has a Mog as well, has outriggers for his crane. I've only seen pics of it, maybe he'll post up. Oh yeah, he's also in the construction trade. 
Yes the original orange 406 truck did belong to Saas.
We did some mods to it and also underwent a full restoration.
Extensive bodywork to the cab, new paint. Hydraulics, brakes, electrical... you name it, we did.
Added the Hiab crane along with the rear outriggers. Kept the original front and rear winches, redid the 3 way tipper bed.
Here are some pics of our mog when we were still testing it out in Langley.
With the crane mounted it was a little unstable at max loads so I had a set of rear outriggers added by Falcon Cranes. Crane is good for 8000lbs at 8' and 800lbs at 37'
Had it at one of my sites in West Van and it is now on Gambier Island working on a project of ours.
It is like a Swiss Army knife only bigger and costlier......

Mike the mog looks good. do you have any action shots?
i'm building something in the same lines but the bigger brother. a U1700l/38 speced to 2400 except the motor. it will look almost identical to this but with high roof and a little smaller palfinger crane.

Perfect for Gambier. The last time we built a house on Gambier we had to use and old logging truck to bring everything inland. Only dropped one lift of material on the road. The landing was out of commission so we had to unload the tandem with the logging truck from the government wharf while it was on the barge. Always interesting on the islands.
