I've finally made a little more progress on the M416. A huge thanks to Mike Green for his help and expertise. We cut the tail off and framed it out. We also welded the fenders on. Next step, the tailgate itself. Here are some pics of the work we've done so far:

More to come!

Decided on the plan for the Lid yet? How about making it double as the field kitchen/table?

i hope mine comes out looking half as good as yours already does.

I saw a thread somewhere once (while spaced out open mouthed for hours) where the guy unbolted the tongue and rewelded it further out, giving him more room on the tongue for whatever, and putting the trailer a little further back from the vehicle.

i cant wait to see how yours comes along.

Any updates? Thanks

great trailer, could you send me a copy of your skethes also. I am building a larger version similar to the m416. i will pm you. thanks

Looks Good
Does your lunette rotate or is it non rotating version.
Were did you get it from I am looking for a rotator version.
How heavy will your build be when finished and what will it be rated for.
Could it be done with thinner gauge sheet and still be structual.

I believe it comes stock on all M416's. I mean to say i didn't know there was such a thing as a non-rotating version.

I'm hoping it will come in under 800lbs but we'll see. As far as the trail rating goes I wont take it on more that a 3.

Definitely, however I bought the tub like that so i have to deal with it, I'll be using much lighter gauge material on the lid and roof rack.

OK People!!!! Updates!

I went over to my good ol' buddy Mike Green's place to finish up phase one of the trailer build. We welded the top and bottom rail to the diamond plate section of steel. I had this piece cut to fit at a metal shop. We then welded the hinges and gate onto the tub of the trailer. I haven't gotten the clasps, rubber weather stripping, and cables installed yet but I'll take care of that this week. Here are the pics of the progress:

We went ahead and took the tub off of the frame to make welding a little easier

We put the trailer up on end to weld the hinges to the bottom of the tub. We welded the other side of the hinge to the inside of the gate so it wouldn't be visible from the outside.

I really like the way this turned out! I'm able to utilize the entire back end now instead of the small space i would have been left with if I had used the CJ tailgate as originally planned.

I really need to weigh this thing! The weight will determine the final design of the lid and roof rack. More updates to come!

I'm now in the market for a roof top tent so if anyone knows of a seller keep me posted. Thanks a ton for all the comments and interest.

No real updates today. It's pretty nasty outside! I started from scratch again on Shetch-up. My last mock up was not to scale and I guessed on a lot of the measurments. This one is exactly to scale to my trailer. This is what my lid will look like after it is made. The RTT will come soon after that.

Thanks,

That's my buddy Mike's garage, I know next to nothing about dirt bikes but could probably ask him a question for you if you wanted.

Looks super bro! You'll love the lid!

Dude I know! I stopped by the metal shop this morning on the way to work and it looked awesome. They bent it up already and are welding the ends this afternoon. I hope to have it on the trailer by tomorrow afternoon to prep for painting this weekend. I guess after that I'll start working on the guts of the trailer!

very cool, i can't wait to start working on mine.

can i ask the price of the rtt?

we have 2 plus feet of snow and a high of 15* here, i wish i was there.
