Had the impression the sound quality of my LC had subtly decreased over time with a somewhat raspy noise accompanying certain sound tracks. After pulling the speakers from the top of the dashboard I now understand where this is coming from; Toyota has covered these speaker with a thin gauze like material, supposedly to protect the speakers but the material isn't dense enough to keep dust and sand away. Result is three speakers that sound like a salt shaker when you shake them. Carefully prying a small hole in the cover allows emptying the sand; sound quality restored!
The two corner speakers were most affected by this, obviously by sand entering through open windows. The center speaker had about half the amount of sand of the others.
