Dash lights on - charge, oil, A/T temp, etc - a definitive fix?

Some mechanic probably R&Red it, got the wrong part (FJ instead of FJZ) and hacked it in instead of doing it properly.

That's what I think too. The original regulator went bad, whoever did the repair got the wrong year regulator, and then hacked the cover to make it work.

Firedog said the wiring harness showed no signs of being modified, but I bet closer inspection will turn up some evidence.
 
I Just pulled the end from the wiring harness, still no evidence of it being hacked, whoever did it, did a good job! The connector was complete with all the weather proof pieces and the boot, the boot was secured properly (not with a bunch of electrical tape) and the connectors were properly crimped.
Not doubting now that someone did install the wrong regulator, but they sure did a nice job with the installation! lol

The new alternator is in, still waiting for all the pieces to the correct connector to come in.... my quick alternator replacement has stretched out to a week long ordeal, I need to get this finished so I can cuss my way through putting a water pump on my Celica:bang:
 
Maybe the connector for the harness is interchangable between FJ and FJZ's? Then it'd be a (relatively) simple matter of getting a harness and regulator.
 
Alternator, maybe.

I'd agree about the alternator. Even if the brushes are good, there are windings that can wear out or break anywhere. A good auto-elect shop can re-wind it. (Keep receipt & get warranty).
Also - is the alternator on the same belt as the PS pump? Assure that the belt is tight enough that it isn't slipping around the pully.
Pull the belt off & check that all of the pullys are turning well and that 1 isn't seizing up. Good luck.
My HJ-61 has all lites on also, I'm going down the same path.
