I was doing a bit of reading this morning about DIY Rocket Stoves -an interesting topic of its own- when I accidentally ran into some youtube vids about Dakota fire pits. I have not used one of those in the longest time and had forgotten about nice they are. Makes so much sense as far as being efficient for cooking, using very little wood and offer other benefits too.
Anyway, I thought I'd put up a blurb here for those of you who don't know about them yet. I think you'll find the concept interesting.
(And yes, I did a (quick) search and didn't see anything about it in this forum at least...)
Only problem is the digging. Needs the tools and the right soil.

Besides high efficiency, I do like the idea of clean cover up. And yes, one can sleep over it. Of course not ideal for warming up people sitting around and swapping Birf stories while sipping spiced rum, but if you have the latter than you may not need much fire anyway... :)
