Well, I did it. I got it for $500 out the door. I'm really happy with it. It rides great and after a 22 mile bike, I'm not tired or sore! I have to change a few things on it, the stem is too long and I'm not a fan of the handle bars, but everything else fits great. Thanks for the help guys. I'll let ya know how the race goes!
 
Glad to hear it is working well. For replacement stems, you will be hard pressed to beat the house brand Sette stems at Pricepoint.

You may also try flipping over your current stem to get the bars higher, which will also move them closer. Many bikes are set up with to much drop from the saddle to bars for most people. I find that 0-1" drop (measured to the top of the bars) is a good starting place for most riders.
