I caught leaking boots twice (c. 2003 and 2009) and replaced band clamps to correct the problem before more than about a teaspoon of grease was lost or contamination occurred. Different clamps each time. Evidently 100 series CV boot clamps are a detail that Toyota/supplier didn't get quite right.

Yet another reason to do your own maintenance - so you can see signs of developing problems and nip them in the bud.

Yes, but they're basically just spinning as a complete assembly, not much motion within that assembly unless you're turning. The axle, birf, and hub turn at the same speed all the time. The wheel bearings are spinning at zero rpm on the inside (spindle), and around 650 rpm on the outside (hub) at 60 mph.
