1980 22r carbed pickup. Here's the problem It will warm up and after that run about 10 min. of highway driving and all of a sudden cuts out. Starts to stutter and can't run on own without mashing at the accelerator pump. But it doen't seem like a carburetor problem because on the way home towing it it starts to run better. And about 20 min. later it runs perfect again. It seems like something is wrong with the ignition such as , coil overheats. Also has a slight misfire at idle if that helps. Thank you, help is appreciated. I just dropped in a new Chevy 350 v8 coil in, new plugs and wires. What else could it be?

Has happened several times.

Also new fuel pump was put in.

It's pissed that you put a Chevy part in it. :D

Seriously though, I would first try putting a Toy coil and ignitor in an see what happens. Are the plug wires toyota or aftermarket? What is the condition of the cap and rotor?

Does it stutter at all rpms or just below a certain rpm range? If it's happening below say 1500-2000 rpm, it could be the fuel cut solenoid on the carb.

The problem first occurred with the Toyota Coil on there. The plugs and wires are aftermarket, and I don't think wires go out when they heat up.

sounds like a fuel problem to me since pumping the gas helps. the float bowl has a window on the side. you should be able to see gas half filling the window. look to see if it is empty when the truck dies. also check for proper float level adjustment if anything looks wrong with the window. its possible you have float saturation. good luck.

When is the last time you adjusted the valves?
How would this have anything to do with the Valves, the motor itself runs great when it gets fuel and ignition.

When your motor heats up the gap closes on the valves. They may not open all the way or close all the way.

No the problem is the truck heats up and after about 15 min. of that that happens.

Does it have an auto choke or manual choke? I had an old ford that I had a new carb put on...had electric choke, but the guy who installed it, didn't wire the choke (I thought he had). Long story short, same thing happened. Could drive it for about 10 or so minutes before it just choked itself out.
