I just cut-n-turn my fj60 housing and installed the short side housing extended sleeve yesterday. I didnt have a vise or table sturdy enough so i used BIG c-clamps to hold the axle housing down across the top of my cruisers frame just behind the bumper. a little heat from the ol' torch and a prybar is all it took. kinda ghetto but it worked great.

Also, just another 2 cents, I used a 4-1/2" angle grinder with the thick hard wheel to open up the initial cuts to provide a better area for proper weld penetration once the balls were turned how I wanted them.

CHECK!
That's exactly how I did it too.;)
