Thought I'd share my winch mount. The bumper I'm using is an aluminum Rover bumper. I like the looks of it, and the light weight but I didn't want to put all the stress of recover on aluminium.

I had a local welding shop make a custom tray to go between the frame rails to hold my winch. It bolts on through the frame bolts, independent of the bumper. I had some recovery points welded underneath. They are cut at an angle, so that they will slide up a rock. They are just inside the shackles, so that the shackles won't flex into them.

I mounted the winch, and bumper as close to the truck as I could. The control pack is behind the grill.

Looks good lets see the entire bumper and how it goes together

Keep it going hippie!

Mounted as high and tight as I could. I can still reach the clutch lever with gloves on... not that I need them (synthetic rope). Ok, safety nazi's I'll wear them.

The grill was already broken when I started this project. I have a spare stowed back, so it didn't hurt my feelings to cut this one up. I had to take a good bit of material off the back of the grill to fit the solonoid pack in there. All I did for the pack was weld the back plate to a piece of 1" steel plate with a captive nut welded to the top and bottom of it. Top bolts in right at the top of the radiator, bottom bolts to the cross member behind the bumper. I didn't even have to make custom wires for the winch, the originals were long enough.

Could you take some pics of how it mounts to the winch plate? Looks good btw.

I want to build or have someone build something similar. But thinking of cutting the valence and moving the winch as fare back as possible. I have a 1.5" BL which should make it work.

How I mounted the bumper to the truck, or the winch to the truck? They are mounted separate. The top of the thread shows how I mounted the winch. I have about 1/16 of an inch between the valance and the winch. Very tight. The bumper is as far back as I could set it and still have access to the clutch (without cutting a hole in the bumper.)

Bumper to the truck.

Cool.
That looks really good. I cant believe you made enough room for the solenoid box, I stared at that on the 60 for a long time and it did not look like it would work. Maybe the 62 has more room.

You should extend the clutch lever like I show in my post, really easy and really nice.

Awesome bumper.

Bumper to the truck.

Bumper to truck won't do you a ton of good, because it will be somewhat bumper specific. On mine, I just stuck it up there, marked the holes and drilled them. I have a flat piece of steel that bolts to the frame, then the bumper bolts to it. That's because my bumper was made for a Rover, not a cruiser.

Cool.

Awesome bumper.

Bling Envy, it's so un-becoming. The chrome is calling you, and you know it!

Don King o' Bling...:grinpimp: Pimp out my FJ!
