Mytic,

Is that box you built sealed? I have 2 Kicker Solobaric SD10s and am looking for a way to use them without sacrificing too much cargo area. That is a really trick setup!

Thanks,
Sam

Raven, my air volume is about 2.0-2.4 cubic feet. My subs require .9 cubic feet each so I'm right at there ideal air space. The panel could be made to run with the original profile of the factory plastic, however depth is going to be the biggest issue. My enclosure is totaly sealed, the enclosure is a complete fiberglass box that can be unbolted and removed from the truck.
Critter, the depth of the subs would be the only issue. If the subs are say in the 10-12" depth range the enclosure would need to be close to what I have built.
From all the intrest that seems to have come from this topic, I will start playing around with some other enclosure ideas I have had that maybe more user freindly for the daily driver and see if there is an intrest in them. Maybe a single 12" setup that one could just add a sub to and bolt in. And maybe a single 10" for better than stock, but not too much bass. Remember if you add a lot of bass like I have with dual 12"s you will need to up grade the rest of the sound stage so it sounds good and not just a lot of bass. I think that a single 10" will surfice for most users. Will post progress on enclosures!

MYtlc,
Could we get some pics of the door install and custom 6.5in pods?

VERY INTERESTED in a single 12 or 10 inch set-up. I currently have infinity separates throughout but lacks bass. I too didn't want a sub box in my rear taking up too much space. Please put me towards the top of the list.

Mytlc, any pics of your door panels? Where did you put your amps?

Nice work

Mytlc,
I am also interested in a single 12" panel.
I replaced the front with infinity reference as well. ;)
Very happy with them. What would you recommend for a 12" sub?

Good Luck! and Thanks

Now that I see how much interest there is in a sub eclosure for the cruiser I will definately start to design some different enclosures and post for sale. However I won't be able to start on fab work until after the new year. Attached is a pic of my front door enclosures, these are fully sealled from the door cavity and allow the infinity's to really aound warm with alot of tight bass response. These are going to be replaced as soon as I fab full half door build-outs that will probably each hold dual 61/2's, besides allowing me to add more speakers it will also look beter I think. These were my prototypes for the cruiser, next ones will be alot more factory looking.

Thanks for all the positive responses every one has given about my system, after all the time I have invested in this rig it's so nice to have people appreciate it!

Those are very nice. When you are ready to make some for sale, please post so I can order some.

mytlc,
Looks tits....very nice. A couple of questions if you don't mind. Is the pod wrapped in vinyl? if so is it factory? How did you mount the pod to the door (screw it to the panel from the back then use the factory plugs to mount)? U use fleece for the first cover b4 fiberglass? where from b/c home depot only has fiberglass mat. Thanx in adavance, I know that was a gang of questions.

pkp80, the pod is wrapped in vinal, probably the hardest part of the whole build. the pod is screwed to the door panel from behind. the door panel has enough hold on the door to handle the wieght. yes i used fleece for the first layer before any fiberglass mat. You can either use fleece or speaker grill cloth. Both have advatages, the fleece is a lot cheaper, I buy the cheapest stuff I can find at a fabric store, usually it has some gay flower pattern on it but once its covered with mat you never see it agian. The grill cloth however is a lot thinner and thus easier to strech and also uses less resin to coat then fleece. there are alot of little 'triks' to building molds and fiberglassing. I have a good friend how is an installer at a car stereo shop and he has let me in on all the industry shortcuts to working with this stuff, but you can pretty much teach yourself and just figure it out as you go. In my experience it takes about a gallon of resin and a couple of attempts to start really getting the hang of the process. It also is really smelly, make sure any one you live with is not on an oxygen tank, you may kill them with the fumes!! Just kidding, but it does stink the house up pretty bad and thats working in the garage with the door open for ventilation. It just has one of those smells that doesn't quit. Any other Q's i'll do my best to answer.
Oh, BTW if you are going to attempt to do this, check out Alpine's web site and look at there show car build ups, they post step by step pics of all there fiberglassing and also how they build there molds and such. Alot of good stuff to get you going!! Good luck!!

Finishing the pod in rhinoliner, infact just doing the whole lower section in rhino. any thoughts?

I would be interested in dual 10" if you ever get a mold set up.

I'd be interested in a dual 10" enclosure like yours covered in tan vinyl, want to make any guesses at what the price would be???

Endless, not mine. No affiliation. Judging by the components, it's an older install but still nice!!
