Hey All,

Been a while, as I sold my 80 and have been going all in on my FJ62.

I have 80 series axles on Booger, coils and just swapped in a 6.2L LS. He has power and torque for days now but the relatively stock 80 series brakes (non ABS) need a little help.

I have searched quite a bit and it looks like there are a ton of old threads with different opinions. Some recommend a hydrostatic booster, others simply recommend better pads and/or a good bleed. What's the current "best" HD Brake setup on these 80s? What would you recommend to increase stoppage, and in what order?

Any help would be appreciated.

What brake booster and master do you have? Assuming 80 calipers, rotors etc?

Yup, stock everything.
In that case, would start with a booster upgrade. If you have the 80 booster, upgraded vacuum boosters are available, bolt in unless you have a clutch booster which makes fitment a bit tight. A step up again is hydroboost, Marks do one ($$$) or some members have built their own.

Following this, decent pads are a good upgrade, I've been happy with the Terrain Tamer fortified products although plenty of others are available. IMHO, drilled/slotted rotors don't achieve much.

If this doesn't get you what you want, next step is larger rotors and calipers, a few options available here, I can't speak for their results as I've been happy with upgraded booster and more aggressive pads.

I appreciate it.
If anything ne knows specific part numbers, etc for bigger boosters or larger caliper/rotor kits, I'm all ears. No clutch booster in my rig.

if you want more stopping power and have some spare change there are some kits like the PowerBrake stage 2 or the Master Power big brake kit that will be coming in sometime shortly.

All your upgrades will be from the aftermarket.
Terrain Tamer, PDI and Bendix are the 3 vacuum booster upgrades that I'm aware of.
@landtank offers a front brake upgrade kit.
There may be others on both fronts.
