I don't have an Aluminum Radiator, but it's common for Aluminum Rads when paired with an iron block to deteriorate quickly due to Galvanic Corrosion and stray voltage electrolysis. Alum acts as an anode with iron, and it's usually the seams that go first because they're thinner.

You also need to run Toyota Red coolant, if you're not.

There are Youtube vids on how to check for how much current is in the coolant. I believe there's a threshold, but not sure.

There are specific steps you need to take to minimize this effect. Here's a couple ways to deal with it:

interesting, i am running toyota coolant.. ill look into the other.

anyone have any similar issues with this radiator ?

I would suggest reading on MUD about grounding the radiator and other grounds. Apparently it is a frequent cause of failure. In addition, don’t know how much you wheel - but also heard the aluminums are much more sensitive to the frame flex and fail early due to this.

Agree with the rest here, make sure you measure the coolant to ground voltage in various running configurations to see potential for corrosion. Its an aluminum radiator problem, not unique to yours. Here is the procedure

I’ve heard several on MUD say that aluminum radiators have expected life of 5 years in 60/62. I bought one anyway - but going to make sure I do everything to keep it from failing.

Radiator shops around me would probably want to replace the core. Which you can do but at that point you may as well buy a new one. I had an aluminum radiator that only lasted 2 years. Not the one you linked but very similar. It started leaking at one of the tubes going into the lower tank. Instead of buying another one I had the original cleaned and used it.

When I talked to Ron Davis he mentioned using new rubber grommets w aluminum rad since the old grommets get brittle/hard and don’t flex. Which means the radiator is subject to stresses it shouldn’t be, potentially leading to the issues you describe.

Are OE radiators not available? I just got a new one from the dealership for my FJ40.

or are there better units out there?
Old threads can sometimes help;
I bet there's more.
Mosley makes aluminum radiators for 60s with an LS, will they make one in stock congiguration?

atleast for LS swaps, this was my research a couple years ago. Prices are likely different

The Mosley Rad is probably the best and good if you're doing an LS swap

About the only all-metal still available for 60/62 is the CSF which seems to have a bit of a checkered reputation or the OSC12 (US Motorworks) which was a good unit FAIK. I have a CSF and have had it for almost 20 years, but I got it when they still had separate units for 60 and 62s

Honestly, at today's prices, I'd have a heavy-duty all-brass unit made. An all brass/copper radiator is superior for heat retention and durability and far easier to repair. Just my $2 (adj for inflation).

I believe @65swb45 has a shop that can do just that but I don't know if he offers it as a service.

ill probably go the route of the mishimoto. they have a lifetime warranty and i can get a pretty break on it thru work..

im not sure of the origin of the crusier corps unit, looks awfully similar to the ebay ones. so likely not going to pursue repairing it for another failure.

I had bad look with Mishimoto radiators. Bought it brand new, leaking or sipping coolant everywhere. I installed a brass one from rockauto since Dec/2025 . So far so good !

RockAuto has them for $389 + ship.

CSF 2708 81-90 LC. (needs small rad cap).

It's what I'd buy right now if I needed one. Or a OSC Rad, if they were available (Autozone can order from US Motorworks, the manufacturer).

brass are nla. cant find anywhere
This is the one I bought :

Lately, it seems like everything is beeing discontinued to an alarming rate, specially OEM parts ….
