“just pull the diff” ha!

Yes, my nephews pulled the rear differential, disassembled it, removed the broken pinion, reassembled and reinstalled the now “super” open diff in the sand alongside a trail in Moab.

My niece’s husband sealed up the front hole with the handyman’s secret weapon. Tossed some new oil in the diff and drove off the trail and then back home.

Awesome work. Trailside repair for the win.

Just be glad you do not have a Lock Right in the front axle. Would have been a stressful drive home.
The Lock-Right in the rear made the job three times longer. It took more time to remove and replace the pins and springs in the Lock-Right than everything else.

I have an ARB to go in with the new gears - no more Lock-Right for me! I will put the Lock-Right in my spare third when I finish installing my 4:88s in the front and rear.

Curious why you would install a lock right in a spare diff. To install it in semi floating axle you be going thru the same thing to install on the trail. Personally like full floating rear axles. While I have three Lock rights in three axles all are for coarse spline axles. Can't remember but thought your front axle is ball and claw? I know there were some 45LVs with ball and claw axles and fine splines. Assume you have fine splines inner axles.
Do you plan on upgrading to fine spline on the pinion with the 4.88s?

Mainly gonna install the Lock-Right in the spare cause I don't have the open diff parts anymore. The ARB replaces everything, so no issue there when I put in the new gears. I already have the beefier ARB model in the front diff. If I ever need the spare diff I'm not concerned about the time it takes to install it.

My Ball & Claws are long gone - replaced by Longfields when Bobby was still alive and making solid parts. The Ball & Claws were coarse spline on the hub side, and fine spline on the diff side, so a Birfield (or Longfield) slips right in.
