I believe that my cruise control is broken. Going 55 today, I pushed in on the ON button (the CRUISE light on the dash came on) then down (or up, whichever direction it says to go to "SET") to set the speed, let off the gas, and nothing..it just coasts down like normal, as if cruise did nothing. Would this be a simple fuse blown, or something serious shot?

Check to see that you have a proper level of brake fluid. If I remember right, a low level can inactivate the CC. Obviously check fuses and the like.

Did your 'Cruise' light blink a few times? You may want to try the cheap fix. Take the cover off the CC unit on the PS and move the lever back and forth a few times. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't. Do a search on cruise control and you'll find plenty of info, including this 'fix' directly from Cdan himself.

You don't say what year you have? At least on a '94 a new CC control unit has an MSRP of around $1600. I don't know about you, but I can do A LOT of driving w/o CC for that price.

That would be the one I remembered Jason - thx.

Afterthought - mine still works part time, even with occasional 'stroking' as Dan suggested.

Ok, read the thread...tried shorting Tc and E1 out, but when I started the cruiser, I just got a flashing CRUISE light. Am I suposed to just short it and not start the cruiser?

No need to start it - just turn key so all the idiot lights are on - don't start her.

Well, tried that too...nothing. Just a flashing "CRUISE". Tried messing with all the options, set on, etc., and nothing.

Are you getting long then short flashes or are they all the same? If you have a stored trouble code you will get short and long flashes. If no code - you got me.

I suppose you could pull the fuse in the engine bay for the CC to clear anything stored, go out and try the CC again, see if you get the CRUISE blinking when/if it fails and try to pull the code again.

Which is the CC fuse? And yes, no code..just contant, steady blinking.

You'll have to look at what's printed on the fuse cover. I don't have access to that info right now. Steady blinking probably does mean no code is stored.

Check the battery cable....mine did this and my battery cable was loose on the post. Toghten it up TIGHT.
Sounds too simple but it worked.

Check both Battery cables. Mine were loose and thus the Cruise control kept going off intermittently as I drove. If the cable can turn easily while sitting on the post, it's too loose.

If you're you can't figure out how to reset just disconnect the negative battery terminal for a minute or pull the main EFI fuse in the under hood fuse block. It's clearly labeled.

Have you tried what CDan suggested --- that's what I was talking about working. Here's a quote:

>>>>>Something is wrong with the actuator. Let's try to save you $1,527.38.

I think that there is some debris stuck in the contacts. Pop the plastic cover off of the top of the actuator and manually move the arm that attaches to the cable. Move it through the full sweep about 8 or 10 times and that should clean off the contacts. Pull the "Dome" fuse from the block behind the battery for about 30 seconds to clear the code and go for a test drive. <<<<<
