I'd be careful baking the ring gear. The amount of heat that would be required to burn off the grease/oil (around 300 degrees F, at least. Usually more) is very close to temper temperature of a lot of steels. You could easily mess up the temper of the ring gear by baking it, making it either softer or more brittle.
FSM says the ring gear should be boiled in water before assembly. Make fun of me all you want, but im a firm believer of doing things the FSM way.
