Hello

This is not a debate of what ignition system is better than what....or about adjusting points....

This thread is for those with a crane cams fireball electronic ignition (points conversion) to adjust the dwell

Crane Cams XR700-0292 universal points conversion kit.

The preset is 25deg for the dwell

This is low for a 6 cyl engine... I have been running this set-up for well over 18 years... kinda thought it was time to tamper with the stock dwell LOL

I sucessfully changed the dwell to 34* it bounced between 33-34

I had talked to a tech guy at crane cams ... I posed the question "if i open the gap on the shutter will the dwell increase"

answer was yes ... I was told to remove the trailing edge material to keep the dwell in phase.

I measured the gap.... it was .8mm

to step upto 37 I was needing to go 1.18

filed the trailing edge with a point file and switched to a nail file...that worked great.... and my wife didnt even knotice it gone LOL ... next time I'll ask :)

turn out to be 34* when tested.... i think i'll stay there for now and check results

pic #2 files
pic #3 trailing edge of shutter

It was quick and easy... and the fireball is now adjustable ....well kinda... you cant go back.... unless you got another shutter... i had a spare

Looks like crane cams is now under the name of Comp Cams and FAST who were bought by Industrial Opportunity Partners (IOP)

They are the company who bought up edelbrock. They I guess have been moving several divisions of various companies consolidating… not a good sign for some performance parts

I was able to find a new copy in pdf of the install instructions
