Cowl vent linkage question

I am in the process of fine tuning the cowl vent up top by the windshield. I'm sure that spring that is connected to it is long gone, but I was wondering if anyone has tried to use a kick vent spring in its place? Here is a pic of the linkage and spring. It is the same shape, roughly, as a kick vent spring, shown below it. SOR sells the kick vent spring (photo is theirs) un-bent and the purchaser bends the wire to fit left or right sides.

Sounds like a fair plan.
Look forwards to seeing how well it works - maybe it holds the vent closed tight and keeps your feet dry.

A few weeks back (maybe months) someone posted a nice rebuild of the top vent system rebuild. That spring looks like it would work.
