It's time for campfires, and marshmallows, 4x4 videos, and 4 wheeling stories....

A while back I was putting together a club/ member/ family camping trip and got a lot of interested parties, but the timing was bad mostly because it was around the holidays, and because it was cold. I have been revisiting the idea, and thinking about locations and times/ dates. I figure June would be the perfect opportunity, since we don't have anyone posting a June event. I guess I was thinking like an 'in town' mini Buena Vista campout for those that can't or don't want to travel that far.

Thinking about locations, I came up with Metberry and China wall. I like those locations because the river is convenient, and nice to play in. Problem with those spots is there isn't much in the way of 4x4 exploring for day trips, once you're at the end -- well, you're a the end. China wall has also become very crowded since it made it into the new Charles Wells book. I figure Rampart would be good, as there's more trails there than anywhere in the area, and large campsites, and it's very close. That makes everything kind of easy.

So if anyone is interested, post up ideas, and I'll bring it up at the next meeting so we can share ideas there. :)

Also, I wanted to mention that the Teller county based -Mountain Amateur Radio Club- that Leon and I are a part of is having a guest in next month to have a demonstration on satellite tracking. From what I gathered he is going to show some of the satellite tracking software, and show how to talk and receive satellites. Cool thing about satellites is you have to follow them with your antenna, and talk in one frequency, and receive on a whole different band. All this really excites my inner nerd. :D Guests are always welcome, so come join the fun.

And lastly, I was going to get feedback on the summer "outdoor" meetings, and whether we should revisit the idea. I had mixed emotions... the food was great, and I like being outside, but the lighting was pretty bad. maybe I could bring a lantern? Tiki torches? haha. Let the discussion begin...

BV is always a great area to hang, wheel and fish. The now almost famous Holy Cross with guests trip is always a highlight of the year! :-) Last year Trev, Spencer and I did Blanca. Hadn't been there in a while. That was great fun and awesome fishing/camping.

I've been thinking about a Metberry trip sometime soon, but would probably be good to wait a few weeks and let the water warm up a bit. As you said, not much 4x4 once you're there. But playing in the river is always fun, lots of hiking, etc. Those huge rocks are cool to hike around/on.

Let me know when that ham club meeting is - I might try to make it. I used to run the website where the hams get their satellite tracking data from :)

I know I liked the outdoor meetings...just wish there was a better turn out...

I wasn't good enough company?!? Lol. Yeah, attendance was pretty poor at the end, but right off the bat, we had lots of people. Not sure what happened.

I'm game for some outdoor meetings. Heck anything with a better turnout than may's meeting!

As for a trail run. I'm game for a Buena Vista weekend. I love all of the options for travel up there. Plus I have never been all the way up Antero and I'd like to check that one off the bucket list. Just never wanted to do it by myself.

I like the idea of a local camping trip, and hope that will come together.

Another negative with Metberry is that once you are there, you are also there with non club people who show up. On my last trip there were several guys with a beer in one hand and a rifle in the other hand shooting across the river. That ruled out going down to the river for any reason. I would never personally plan on camping there.

I'm up for a camping trip but the June weekends are already filling up currently I'm open the weekends June 16, 23m or 30. I would prefer camping in the BV Area

I'm also open for an outdoor meeting if that what folks want
