After calling around to find someone who would do it "locally" (120 miles) I was quoted $80 a piece. Is this reasonable? As it's one of the few easily shippable pieces of a 3b I'm happy to send it to someone who works on lots of them, if that's a better idea, or should any competent shop be adequate? I don't have reason to believe I need them specifically except that it's a relatively high mileage engine getting relatively poor economy compared to my previous 3b. (Though lots of other factors there as well, tires, gearing etc.) Thank you

seems resonable. Make sure they use Denso nozzles. Bosch ones apparently don't work that well.
You can give him specs out of the manual and I would go with it.
General rule I have heard is $100 a piece but maybe thats just Canada's premium

Thank you, sounds good. next question, should I do it? I've read the info concerning spray pattern etc. but by the time I remove them unless they are clearly brand new it seems logical to spend the money. Am I thinking right about this? Am I likely to notice improvement or is that entirely dependent on how worn they are now. Thanks for the advice!

Any competent shop should be adequate. It's a common design

My local shop charges less than 200 for 4 3b injectors using denso nozzles. No problem getting most nozzles either. They will set to denso book pressure or whatever you tell them

lynchmob your shop is legendary, lol - you've posted that number before and I scoured the Midwest trying to find someone to match it.

I had to settle for $100 each like the other peasants.

:D

Ive referred others to the shop. They will accept injectors in the mail

Its a family run shop thats been around for quite a while. They are always helpful (above and beyond) and they remember my name when I walk in even after a long absence.

http://www.dfispdx.com/ - you will probably talk to Mark or Kyle.

The last set I had done was 3-4 weeks ago for a 3BII that Im rebuilding. They did the VE pump as well. HZ injectors are a bit more and direct injection gets closer to 100 each

Tell them chris lynch sent you if you talk to Mark Kyle or Rod. I wont get anything but a thank you but its nice to support a shop that I really like to deal with.

Lynchmob - those guys are awesome. Extraordinarily polite, pleasant, knew exactly what I wanted when I mentioned your name.
$5 to test them
$25 plus the density tip cost for a full rebuild. He estimated $50 apiece, one day turn around. I asked if he thought it was a good idea and he said if it ain't broke don't fix it, but if you want us to look we'd be glad to. I'm sold

I have had them do 12ht injectors and pumps without issue. I would guess if you had a really serious issue with a pump you may have to help source something

I had them rebuild a 1hd pump that I purchased as a bucket of parts. I had to track down a retainer they could not find through their denso sources.

I just had Oregon Fuel Injection do mine. It was about $240 shipped. Originally quoted me $190-200, but once they got them, there were a few pieces that needed replaced instead of refurbished. They were very upfront about everything, good communication, speedy on the turn around (1 week ahead of the projected return rate), and while I haven't finished putting my 3b back together, I have faith they did a good job.

As far as testing goes, I have to mention Washington Tractor, the local John Deere dealer in Chehalis, WA. They pressure tested my injectors for free. Gave me advice on the rebuild, contact name and info for Oregon Fuel Injection, explained how the injector worked, what the pattern should look like, etc. All of this at no charge. I have never bought a tractor from them, they were just helpful.

It's seemingly rare, but good service is still out there.

Well....they pressure tested my injectors and deemed a rebuild in order.. Problem is the supplier has only 2 nozzle tips. I called 4Wheel auto in Edmonton who also have 2 (@$59 + shipping), and cruiserparts who have 4 @ $46 or so but I'm not sure they are the correct ones. So I'll find out tomorrow if their supplier in Europe has any, since the nozzles at $28 plus shipped to DSIFX would be nice, and any shipping right now is liable to take a while. Long story short.. Easy jobs are never easy

This ticks me off. If I knew this injector shop existed in Portland, I would have yanked my injectors out of my 3b in tacoma, then go down to Portland for my uncles funeral this past weekend and with luck, Injector would be done in a day or two for pick up.

NOW how often do injectors need to be rebuilt? It has been a number of years since the last rebuilt and my economy is not what it should be. Compression is above new compression numbers "I suspect carbon". Does a injector with a poor pattern reduce fuel economy, reduce hill climb speeds and make for a more difficult start in the morning? Cannot check the injector patern do not have the hoses and glass tube to see what the pattern is doing.

If you can afford down time they charge 5 bucks each to check them. It used to be free, but its understandable that they charge a small fee.

Your rebuild should generally be based on the amount of use rather than the years since last rebuild. The set in my 75 has 230K (km) on them. The truck runs fine, but I would guess that they would have a bad pattern and possibly even a little leakage. Mine puffs just a little on cold start and sometimes when leaving a red light.

Mine have about 200,000 kms on them since their last rebuild and truck runs great...Might have them tested for fun soon though because I can do it for free and they are out anyways...

I have been looking into getting my injectors rebuilt. In the manual it says that a SST socket is used to remove the injector, is that SST required or is there a standard socket or generic injector socket that I can use?

I am making a few inquires locally, but will probably end up using lynchmob's recommendation. Thanks for posting that lynchmob.
