Corroded oil cooler

I used SimpleGreen Automotive cleaner/degreaser. Available at most car-parts stores in 1 gallon containers.

Both Robbie and I were amazed how soaking parts would actually get the gunk off better than most "solvents". Certainly better than using flamable and volatile chemicals. Actually smells much less than traditional SG. Rinsed multiple times after done with regular H2O, then distilled H2O and blew out with compressed air. Was shiny as new after a day of soaking and rinsing. Worked wonders on the cam gears, and all other varnished parts.

Its aluminum but that holes :eek:

mine below, just lil reminder don't forget to order those 3 oil cooler gaskets.

Quick question, is it most likely just the gaskets that will oil allow to go into the water system, or could there be some metal damage that could be replaced in this area?

Not looking like the HG as done CO2 test and has come back clean, mechanic this is the first place to look at, with silcon there, mechanic believes its has been off recently....

thanks

Reviving the Oil cooler

I have the same problem on my 98 105 1FZFE, but cannot get a cooler cover shipped to me in Peru for at least 3-4 weeks. Does anyone know if this cover can be welded? I'm thinking of having all the corrosion removed and welding an aluminum plate over the corroded areas.

Or is there an aftermarket cooler that I can use?
Thanks for any help!!!!
