Anybody hear of this event before? Looks like the 2nd annual one is coming up in October and doing a quick search here I didn't see any threads on the subject.

Copperstate Overland

Thought it might be prudent for us to be knowledgeable about an event in our own backyard. Especially when our group has a lot of cool pre-'79 rigs :hillbilly:

(Disclaimer: Just found this through another MUD post. Not affiliated with this event or any agencies or entities putting it together. Past performance does not guarantee future performance. Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear. Etc.)

Yes, I'm one of the officers organizing the event. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. I am a member of the Phoenix Art Museum's Men's Art Council. We sponsor a slew of events that raise money for the museum such as The Copperstate 1000, Southwest Double Gun Expo, Ripe, and The Copperstate Overland. Please check out the link below:

@Dimples thats probably Sperry Hutchinson. He's the event chairman.

Yes that is him. I had looked into it but do not have a pre 80 vehicle and entry is a little rich for my blood.

Yes. It is definitely a fancy schmancy event. As Robin used to say, "Champagne wishes and caviar dreams!" Ha!

The event is an classic truck off-road rally that works as a sister event to our Copperstate 1000 rally. We organize the route (including arrow signs at every turn), provide mechanical support, lodging (Fancy hotels + Glamping), high end cuisine and booze, and swag all for a 4 day event. All the drivers need to do drive. We take care of everything they could possibly need and provide a Class-A luxurious experience in the most beautiful back country areas within AZ. The video above doesn't really do it justice. I know I'm a bit biased but I'm proud of the work we put into the event and the profit proceeds go to fund the Phx Art Museum.

Hey Hank - I believe we met in Scottsdale back in January! Nice to see you here. I stumbled on this post after searching for Copperstate. This year we're bringing our white FJ43 again and we're doing this special build for it. Not sure if you were aware of it: Our Copperstate Overland Build - 1981 FJ43

See you in October

Juan

Hey Juan, great to see you here too. Yes, Sperry told me about your involvement and the upcoming build. I can't wait to see what it will look like.

Cheers!

Holy Schniekies. Spendy entrance fee. Could always do a redneck version... Do your own camping, make up some stickers and dash plaques, plan a route that uses as little asphalt as possible, bring yer own vittles... Oh and no rigs newer than say 97?

He is right it is benefitting a great cause. I think you would have to get some sponsors to make it work. Although a redneck version does sound fun.

Yes definitely it's for a great cause and sounds fun, just... spendy. I'm sure for the ones that can do it, it will be a blast.

I think I may have a vehicle or two that would qualify but have feeling while I have vehicles that meet the requirements don't think it would be a good fit for me. Besides I'm just a old guy on a fixed income.
